Supported DJ Controllers
Swagg Brown DJ works with USB / MIDI DJ controllers through the browser's Web MIDI. Controllers fall into three groups depending on how thoroughly they've been tested and mapped.
How compatibility is classified
Officially Supported
Tested and maintained by Swagg Brown against the full compatibility matrix. Plug in, sign in, and every knob, fader, jog wheel, cue pad and crossfader maps correctly out of the box.
Community Supported
User-submitted mappings reviewed by the team. They work well for common controls but haven't cleared the full official test matrix — expect the fundamentals to work, with occasional edge cases.
MIDI Learn Compatible
No built-in mapping exists yet, but any class-compliant USB / MIDI controller can be wired up in a few minutes with the built-in MIDI Learn tool.
How to check your specific controller
- Open the studio and choose Controllers from the menu — the live directory shows every controller currently in each tier.
- If yours appears in the Officially or Community list, plug it in and it should map on connect.
- If it isn't listed, open Controllers → MIDI Learn, click an action (say, Deck 1 Play), and press the hardware control you want to bind. Repeat for faders, knobs, jog wheels, and pads.
- Save the profile locally, and optionally export it as JSON to share with the community.

What Web MIDI does & doesn't do
- Works: any USB MIDI DJ controller on Windows, macOS, and Linux in modern Chromium-based browsers.
- Doesn't work automatically: HID-only controllers with proprietary protocols (some Serato / Rekordbox-branded hardware). Many still map fine with MIDI Learn once switched into their MIDI mode.
- Encrypted mapping files from VirtualDJ, Serato, Rekordbox or Traktor cannot be imported — that's a licensing restriction, not a technical one. Build a native Swagg Brown profile instead; it takes about ten minutes.
Frequently asked
My controller isn't listed — will it work?
Most likely yes. If it speaks class-compliant USB MIDI (which the vast majority of DJ controllers do), MIDI Learn will bind every control. "Fully Supported" is a stricter bar — a controller reaches it only after the complete test matrix passes on real hardware.
Do I need any drivers?
Windows, macOS, and Linux all recognize class-compliant MIDI controllers without installing drivers. Some controllers (especially ones with 4-channel audio interfaces) may need their vendor driver for full audio-interface support — the MIDI side still works either way.
Can I DJ without a controller?
